My October 2009 Readathon Picks

It looks like I'll be able to participate in the Readathon this time. If you are unfamiliar with Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon, you can find out more about it on the official blog. This will be my third time participating (I think, don't hold me to that) and it's always a lot of fun.

Michelle at Galleysmith is holding a Slumber Party for the Readathon. What a good idea! Not sure if I can stay up all night. I'd be the first one with shaving cream in her face or bra in the freezer. I just can't stay up with I used to. Oh well, I'll try my best.

So what will I read? I'm trying to stick with shorter books this time.

Jamaica Inn by Daphne DuMaurier: I think a good suspense will keep me up.

Rises In the Night by Colleen Gleason: Vampires always succeed in keeping me awake.

Gourmet Rhapsody by Muriel Barbery: I haven't read The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I hope I won't be lost when I read this companion piece.

Confections of a Closet Baker by Gesine Bullock-Prado: Sensing a theme here? It sounds delicious.

Sum by David Eagelman: A book on the afterlife might not be light but it's very short.

Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger: Not short but I'm sure I'll be hooked on this one!

We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson (Not pictured): I love Shirley Jackson and have this one on the RIP Challenge list. I don't think I can go wrong with this one.

I'm also planning on picking up an audiobook for those times when a book in my hand isn't practical or I want to rest my eyes.

Have you signed up yet?

  1. Sounds like a great pile!

And although I love the thought of a slumber party, I'd like to get some sleep when I want to... And I don't like to worry about what I look like ;)

  2. I was reading Sum a few weeks ago. It's pretty light but it does make you think. Your pile looks great. I see that a lot of readers are putting Shirley Jackson on their lists. Happy reading.

  3. I've still got to pick my books! I don't know that I'm going to be able to stay up all night either but I sure am going to try that is for sure.

Thank you for shouting out for the slumber party! You actually just gave me a great idea for a good post during the festivities :)

  4. Great list Other Chris!! Rises the Night is just perfect for the readathon!! I wish I hadn't finished that series so that I had some Gleason to read :( I'm loving Her Fearful Symmetry so far...excellent book!

  5. Great stack of books, but don't you need some fluff in there?

  6. Great choices! Jamaica Inn is an old favorite of mine and, of course, I lurv Colleen Gleason's books. Have fun reading! I can't stay up all night. I get sick as a dog.

  7. Since I see that you have a couple of novellas, I'm here to tempt you to join my novella challenge! :)

I think I'm going to put Her Fearful Symmetry on my list, too. I know it's not short, but I think it will be one I can really become immersed in, you know?

  8. I didn't sign up. I just can't do it with a toddler and.. my husband (sigh). Maybe someday though!

Great selections! I would have chosen short books, too!
