You, um, may have noticed that the Olympics are going on right now, so that’s the genesis of this week’s question, in two parts:
First:
- Do you or have you ever read books about the Olympics? About sports in general?
- Fictional ones? Or non-fiction? Or both?
And, Second:
- Do you consider yourself a sports fan?
- Because, of course, if you’re a rabid fan and read about sports constantly, there’s a logic there; if you hate sports and never read anything sports-related, that, too … but you don’t have to love sports to enjoy a good sports story.
- (Or a good sports movie, for that matter. Feel free to expand this into a discussion about “Friday Night Lights” or “The Natural” or whatever…)
Books about sports I'll avoid like the plague. I did read a book about a boxer last year (Lachlan of the Bad Heart) but it wasn't really about boxing. That's as close as it gets.
I'll take that as a "no" then. :)
ReplyDeleteOnly enjoying Wii Sports sounds about right to me - although Sonic & Mario at the Olympics was quite entertaining as well if you wanted to get into the Beijing mood a bit more!
ReplyDeleteI don't think having your opinion about sports would get you in trouble! You're entitled! I wonder how many big sports fans like good literature? To each his/her own.
ReplyDeleteI like books about baseball, fiction or nonfiction, but if the writer is good, he or she can make any sport interesting to me...even American football, which I despise.
ReplyDeleteI read The Last Days of Summer by Steve Kluger about a nine year old baseball obsessed Jewish boy and not one of those things resonates with me but boy howdy, was the book ever good. Maybe because I had zippo expectations? But it really was a great book.
ReplyDeleteSo no, not normally a sports book fan either. :)
