Jean Valjean is Batman

Okay, maybe not, but it’s strange how much Jean Valjean is like a super hero.

  • He had a bad beginning, jailed for 19 years.
  • He creates a new persona and makes piles of money.
  • He saves people’s lives, putting himself in peril.
  • He has a nemesis: Javert. Javert is a super villain because he never gives up trying to get Jean Valjean.
  • Jean Valjean can scale walls and is super strong!
  • He has two parts to his personality, the criminal and the saint, and uses them accordingly.

As you can tell, I’m completely enjoying reading Les Misérables. I’m not getting much else done though.

Can you see Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean? I’m not sure. I guess we’ll find out in December when the movie comes out!

  3. I've been reading it since the spring, too, like John. I have been really enjoying it, though I think i have to go back and refresh my memory about Valjean being like Batman! I haven't got far enough yet. Interesting idea, I will keep it in mind while I read it and let you know later :-)

  4. PS Jackman is kind of pretty to be playing the fierce Valjean, though I can see him playing the role - he has the necessary intensity, and potential darkness. I better hurry and keep reading so I can be done before the movie comes out. Thanks for the reminder!

Who do you think should play Valjean?

    1. I saw some photos and he looks pretty fierce. I'm not sure who should play him. I can't imagine any actor as his character.

  5. You are cracking me up on your thoughts on the book. I think Jackman is going to make one hell of a Valjean. He has the voice and the biceps. It will be interesting to see how they age him as the book progresses.
