I feel like that bunny this week. Many of my meals resemble grass as I make an effort to eat healthier. That is one of the things I'm determined to do in 2012.
I'm back to regularly scheduled programming and by that I mean the return of The Friday Bookish Buzz. What is new in the book world?
*Need a cat fix? How about books reimagined with cats as the protagonists? A Tale of Two Kitties is my favorite.
*Sarah Polley to direct film adaptation of Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace. Hey, I read that one!
*I totally agree with them about 'man cave.' I hate that one so much. A list of overused or just plain annoying words that should be banished.
*This is crappy, crappy news. Brilliance Audio will stop selling books to libraries. I've borrowed a lot of them from the library. Will that compel me to buy them myself? No, it will not.
*Want to buy a book about birds? $7 million dollars might cover the cost of this one.
*The US gets a new Ambassator for Young People's Literature.
*Sad. Oldest independent bookstore in Toronto to close.
*It begins. Hear that? Cha'ching! Hunger Games Nail Polish. How long until we see Katniss's likeness on sandwich bags?
*Why Tolkien didn't get the Nobel Prize. By the way, the winner that year was Ivo Andric.
*The Story of the Bookhouse: A Romance.
*Etsy Love: Wrap your head around this, cats as Jane Austen characters. Now see Tara Fly's interpretation of Mr Bennet.
Happy Reading!

Such an interesting conglomeration of facts, from Tolkien to Atwood to Katniss' nail polish. Sad to see a Toronto bookstore close; I even miss our local Borders! On a side note, Atlias Grace was not my favorite Atwood. I wish they would have chosen Cat's Eye or The Robber Bride to be made into film. ;)
ReplyDeleteI read the piece about Walter Dean Meyers's as Ambassador. I think he's a good choice given the kind of fiction he writes. I think it would be accessible and surprisingly refreshing for hesitant teen readers, especially. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Great Catsby and The Cat Hair in My Eye are my favorites!
ReplyDeleteExcellent news about Alias Grace! I love Sarah Polley, and that's my favourite Atwood novel.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to have the Kitty Titles to get me giggling, in contrast to the sobering news of another indie bookshop closing its doors. (My favourite was Lord of the Fleas for the cover, but the description for Rushdie's novel was awesome!) Thanks.
ReplyDeleteRandom, but I couldn't resist: As a child I always wanted to play that I was a bunny, so I would eat lots and lots of salad and was proud of myself because I thought that that was one of the basic characteristics of being a bunny :P I doubt that would help you in your endeavor to eat healthier.
ReplyDeleteI'm rather excited about THG nail polish, even though it really has nothing to do with the book. I agree that Man Cave and Baby Bump should be banished from our lexicon forever. Two completely repulsive words. I'm surprised about some of the others on the list though.
ReplyDeleteGreat list of eclectic news, as always!
Ivo who?
ReplyDelete*Smiles*
sad about the audiobooks not being sold to libraries! I would never purchase an audiobook, but love using the library's!
