Welcome to my Chair!

Welcome new friends and old to Chrisbookarama Does Armchair BEA! Who need New York when we have each other, right? So what is Armchair BEA? Have you heard of Book Expo America (or BEA)? Every year the bookish people gather together in the Big Apple to talk about books. Many book bloggers take the trek to New York but obviously we all can't go. Some of us live too far away, it's too expensive or we have obligations that keep us close to home. While those lucky few are kicking it with the likes of Mo Williems and R.L. Stine (or maybe just glimpsing their big toe), other book bloggers will be filling your feed readers with posts related to the BEA but not from BEA. They are the Armchair BEA participants.

If you're new to Chrisbookarama, allow me to introduce myself. I'm a thirty-something year old book loving Mom of a very dramatic 8 year old girl. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada where I've lived all my life and can't imagine living anywhere else. I'm an eclectic reader with interests in all kinds of topics. At anytime you'll find reviews of literature, classics, mysteries, non-fiction, humour, young adult books on my blog. I've been writing about books on this blog for 4+ years now. I still love it and hope to continue doing this for a long time. If you'd like to learn more about me click About Chrisbookarama above the blog banner and if you like what you see subscribe to the blog. This year I had the opportunity to help organize Armchair BEA. What a great group of people to work with. They had such excellent ideas. We want everyone to have a great time and hope you will!

Today, Monday the 23rd, is Victoria Day here in Canada. My husband and child are off today so I'll be enjoying Armchair BEA while playing outside and barbecuing. While I'm jealous of all the bookish fun my friends attending BEA are having, I don't envy the crowds and confusion. I work best under peaceful conditions. I'm looking forward to visiting other Armchair BEA participants and hope they visit me too. I can't wait to read the guest posts. And when things get too hectic, I can relax with a drink in my favorite chair.

Please go ahead and say hello in the comments!

Edit: I'm going to visit everyone who comments on this post, so I may not reply to your comment here. Talk to you later!

  3. I don't think I knew you live in Canada! How is that possible?

Have fun tomorrow with the BBQ and the day off!

  4. Sounds like a great way to celebrate Victoria Day - better than being outside with all the crowds and business!

  5. Have a fun day outside! I'll be having fun this weekend, so I'm not envying the BEA-ers either!

  6. Have a terrific time today at the barbecue! I am waiting for the rain to stop long enough to get mine going. :)

  7. I love the armchair in the photo - is that yours? Lucky you if it is :-)
    Enjoy the holiday!

  8. While I'd love to go to BEA I think I'd also be too overwhelmed by the crowds and people to enjoy it fully. Really outgoing online but freeze up in person.

Enjoy your holiday! BBQ sounds really wonderful.

  9. Chris love the chair. Happy Victoria Day. Not sure how much I will get done because I have two sick people in the house (son and hubby).

I always get a little home sick when I read your blog. I guess once an east coaster always a east coaster.

    Have a great day :)

  13. I know you're one of the organizers because you contacted me for the post about international bloggers. So nice to meet you and I hope you know that we appreciate all the effort that organizers put into ArmchairBEA. :) I think it's a great way for those of us who can't go to BEA to mingle and interact. See you around, this week!

  14. It is a pleaure to meet you and I absolutely love your chair and want one just like it. I would also really love to visit Nova Scotia some day, I hear it is gorgeous. Hope you have a great week.

  15. I'm enjoying Victoria Day here in Victoria - but the sun is shining so I think I might have to take my book outside and make the most of it! Have a lovely long weekend in your armchair :)

  16. well at the moment i'm stuck in side with thunderstorms so strong car alarms are sound off. truly hoping i don't drift off to sleep, rain and storms have a habit of doing that to me. never attended book blog events and this is my first BEA, if all the BEa are going to be held in NY each year , i will not be attending, i don't care for the city. sokeep this going. hope to see you throughout the week, happy reading.

  19. Canadian?!? Another one? I knew there was something a little off by you. I just couldn't put my finger on it previously, but now I can. Thanks for clearing that up. ;)

Barbecue? Chicken? Pork? And what kind of drink? Tell us more so we can be properly jealous.

  20. i'm not a big fan of crowds and confusion either, so i'm happy to be participating from the comfort of my favorite coffee shop.

  24. Lovely to meet you!!

I love Nova Scotia (my grandparents spend their summers on PEI so I've been to N.S several times) it's so beautiful there!!

I love your blog name and am looking forward to following your posts.

  25. I definitely won't miss the crowds. It's kind of nice to be sitting on my own couch right now (should I move to the armchair? what are the RULES?). :)

  26. Happy Victoria Day! I think I knew everything you said, already (except for the holiday bit). I'm conflicted -- a little like Trish in that I'm cheerful online and much more subdued in person, so I don't know if I could handle BEA. And, I so hate crowds. But now that I've met a couple bloggers, I'm actually considering BEA in 2012. We shall see. Foreign countries always win if they come up and this year weddings have trumped New York as we have two and both require travel. It doesn't bother me a bit to stay home. Hope you have a fabulous week!

  31. Hi Chris! Thanks for visiting my blog. I started replying to everyone on my blog, but then decided that I would get around to more people if I just visited their blog and commented. I'm looking forward to the rest of Armchair BEA.

  32. We must have started blogging within a few months of each other. I remember you were among the first bloggers who commented on some of my posts. I started blogging in January 2007, which is a bit over four years ago. I especially like your Bookish Buzz on Fridays. Enjoy the week. I'll be back to see you every day you post this week, as you show up in the blogroll on my sidebar.

  33. I don't envy the crowds nor confusion either, the one thing that makes me almost glad to stay home. Besides being an armchair participant, of course. I'm with Col: you're chair looks so inviting! XOXO

  34. It's nice to "meet" you! Instead of envying the BEA participants, I think I'll envy you and your day off, barbecuing. Thanks so much for all your work in planning Armchair BEA! It's my first year participating, and I'm already having a great time.

  35. If only we had unlimited resources, right? :)

  36. Oh I know what you mean, while I'd give anything for the chance to go to BEA, I think the crowds would totally freak me out! Or I'd turn rabid in my mad bit to score those hot ARC's.

    So nice meeting you!

  37. I hope you enjoy your holiday! And thanks so much for helping to organize Armchair BEA. :)

  38. I have chair envy! That looks so comfy to read in.

  40. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

NY would be very overwhelming at the very least. I truly want to go to BEA one day, but I don't look forward to the crowds and craziness.

  41. Crowded places is something I avoid.(Here's to us consoling ourselves for not being able to attend BEA). LOl.

I know you're one of the organizers and I want to express my thanks for the hardwork you guys put into this event. It's is really awesome to meet and interact with other bloggers. Cheers!
