So... you may have heard Blogger was down a looooong time in internet years. Everyone was hoarding canned goods and bottled water. Then as quick as it went down, it came back on. We're saved!!! Because of that disturbance on the web, this post was late. I thought it was a goner, actually, because I had saved it as a draft yesterday, but here it is. And there is a lot of bookish news. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg.
*You could sing "I'm on a Boat" next year at Halifax's Word on the Street, but it might be a tad inappropriate.
*Jennifer Egan apologizes for calling women's fiction "banal."
*Some literary terms you should know. Love the shout out to Alanis Morrisette under irony.
*I love this photo of Woody Harrelson, who will play Haymitch in the Hunger Games movie.
*The Duchess of Devonshire is hosting a readalong of Fanny Burney's Evelina.
*Greg Mortenson is getting sued.
*Like Sci-Fi? Here are some weird illustrations from books.
*Poo, I never find anything good at flea markets, but this guy found a first edition Wuthering Heights.
*Don't mess with Aussie students' libraries, they don't like it.
*Brits and Americans battle over spelling while us Canadians labour somewhere in the middle.
*What your literary tote says about you. I have a NYRB tote and I do relate to Liz Lemon but I'm under 45.
*Etsy Love: Amazing altered book art from Red Tree Factory. They're so surreal.

I have a Powell's tote AND sweatshirt, so yeah, I'm a bookstore tourist.
ReplyDelete'Fraid my experience with the Blogger debacle hasn't been that "quick"--my blog is up again, but I'm still missing posts, updates and comments from yesterday and I'm not too keen to put up anything new yet for fear that that will somehow prevent the missing stuff from reappearing.
ReplyDeleteGlad it was quick and hopefully bug-free for you.
Harrelson is playing Haymitch????? PERFECTTTT!!! I don't even like him, but that's perfect casting.
ReplyDeleteAs for Egan, I hadn't heard about her comment, but I'm gonna go read about it, and I might be disappointed by her. Good Squad is high on my list, so we'll see if it impacts my like or dislike of that book.
I think I am going to go to Word on the Street this year... Now, hopefully others will since I missed out on meeting people last year!
ReplyDeleteJill- I would be too if there were stores nearby with totes.
ReplyDeleteBev- I hope I didn't seem gloaty. Truth be told, I haven't done a lot of writing posts lately. I can't find my mojo. Hope you get your posts back soon.
Andi- I thought so too! He was so good in Zombieland.
Kailana- I'm a last minute planner, so I don't know if I'll be going or not. I would love to though and meet you!
