Blogging: Chris Says Relax

memes - Business Cat: Hold My Calls

It's just not Friday on Chrisbookarama without a lolcat.

Today is the last day of scheduled topics for Armchair BEA and it's all about blogging (not books). I did a lot of blog related stuff this week and I'm all blogged out. I think next week will be much quieter on the blog. (The weekend might involve some alcoholic beverages. Suggestions welcome.)

I thought about what to talk about and while I could have written some long post about something technical, I just don't have it in me. Then I read Trisha's post about balancing blogging with life and took her advice. All week I've yammered on in various places about just 'relaxing and having fun' on your blog. That's what I need to do myself. Don't get me wrong, it's been a blast but now is the time to curl up with a good book. Can't be a book blogger if you don't read books, right?

So my advice is to take time for yourself. Grab a book. Get a pedicure. Take a walk. Or hold all your calls and watch the fish tank screensaver. Know your limitations and you'll avoid burning out.

If you want a bit more advice from me, here's a post from 2 years ago about writing reviews. It's just how I do it, nothing set in stone.

Thanks for dropping by. Hope you all had fun this week!

  1. Great advice! I always have difficulty balancing blogging with keeping up with my reading. Because Blogging also means visiting other blogs and leaving personalized comments and at times my quiet time with books gets minimized. Enjoy your day with your book!

  2. Great Advice Chris. I admit that I am constantly struggling with blogging, reading and life and how to make it all balance and its hard.

I have now taken Sunday's off from blogging because I could personally feel that blogging was beginning to drag me down and it was starting to become a chore to blog.

I realized that its okay to take time off and its okay to relax.

  3. I've spent way too much time on Armchair BEA and blogging in general this week, so I know what you're saying.

Depending on how you feel, anything alcoholic may do.

Have a great weekend, with lots of reading!

  4. Thank you for pointing me to Trisha's post and for the timely reminder to relax. I am not sure how much reading or blogging will get done this weekend, but I am not going to stress about it.

  5. Armchair BEA wore me out, too, but I loved every minute of it! Taking time off blogging is great advice; I think it will result in better posts, too.

I just discovered a new drink that is refreshing and strong at the same time: Grand Mariner muddled with mint leaves and lemon. Simple and tasty!

  8. I'm getting pretty blogged out myself this week. I'm a champion napper, so I'm super excited to take it easy this weekend.

    The kitten is super cute!!

In response to your comment on my blog. I'm am super terrible at time management unless I have a schedule that I make and stick to. I'm easily distracted. As in oooh shiny distracted.

  11. Great post. I need to find a way to enjoy the still moments a little more. Blogging is enjoyable, but it doesn't beat real life with family. And I love the post from 2 years ago. I am still working on how to format my book reviews. I've been trying new formats, when I find one that works well, I'll stick to it I suppose. But for me, I know when something fits perfectly when it sits well in my soul and it's a woosah moment. :-)

And the napping kitty is adorable.

  12. Balance is something I think a lot of us struggle with, but we can make it work, if we love what we are doing, or it just won't happen.

Thanks again for everything this week.

  15. Actually real life kept me away from blogging too much this week, so I'll be spending some time catching up and visiting blogs the next few days (err weeks) to see what I missed. I did get to do the twitter chat last night which was fun. You earned your rest. Enjoy your weekend.

  16. I kind of burnt out on BEA posts this week, so I decided to post about my latest book finds instead because that's what sounded like fun. :) I tend to go through cycles of book gorging and then dry spells of burnout where I take small breaks from blogging. Usually it all revolves around my health though - when it's good I'm at the computer less, when it's not so good I'm stuck at home reading stacks of books to keep my sanity.

Oh, and I loved the screensaver cat! My kitty likes to watch when I play peggle.

  17. Hahaha, love that photo at the top!

Great tip! It's easy to lose yourself to your blog, so it's nice to have a reminder to step away sometimes!

  18. Great idea! I have loved Armchair BEA this week, but I'm ready for a bloggy break for a few days, too. :)

  20. Forget the fish tank screensaver. I'm going to sit here and stare at that sleepy kitten for the rest of the day. Maybe I'll listen to an audiobook while watching it :-).

    Great advice, all around!

  21. Yay for LOL cats! I felt that my armchair BEA posts were dying for some LOL cats too. :)

I love that little sleepy kitty! That's exactly how I felt after the blogging and twittering this week.

Tomorrow I plan on taking it easy and reading. Sounds heavenly.
