There are some odd stories in the news this week. I think the kid in the balloon takes the cake though.
*Maurice Sendak gives an interview, then goes outside and shakes fist at clouds.
*Edgar Allan Poe finally gets a funeral.
*Singer Leona Lewis is attacked during a book signing.
*The Governor General Awards nominations announced.
*Mandela sells his book rights.
*This sounds like a game we played in school: Gaiman to start a Twitter story.
*I'm not going to link to the original article because I made me feel all dirty (not in a good way) but to the Smart Bitches who brought it to my attention. Apparently, some sci-fi guys are scared of girls. And really "Spearhead"? Subtle.
*Etsy Love: Since Where the Wild Things Are is opening tomorrow, this Wild Thing Max Illustration from Nan Lawson or get really crazy and dress up like him. And a shout out to Edgar Allan Poe from Synchronicity313's shop. RIP Mr Poe.
And this is so entertaining to watch. Thanks Alea!
Have a great weekend peoples!
love that cat photo! sums up my mood perfectly. ha!
ReplyDeleteas for the balloon boy...i didn't hear about it until late last night. what a drama! have a great weekend. :)
I heard about that Spearhead article via John Scalzi's blog, and the whole thing made me feel queasy. The site is seriously disturbing - they basically advocate Straight White Male supremacy. Things like this make me realize how sheltered my life actually is - I tend to forget that the world is in fact full of crazy people.
ReplyDeleteThat video is perfect for a Friday- thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat video was so funny! Haha, it's something I'd love to do with my friends just to have a good time.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
It took me a couple days to figure out what this balloon boy thing was. I finally saw the whole story on the news...
ReplyDeleteRe Leona Lewis' book signing:
ReplyDeleteSee, recently, I got this monkey's paw...
(John Mutford does not endorse violence.)
That Sendak article was so fun to read. We just got back from seeing the movie- it was fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThe balloon thing is even weirder, now that they're saying it was a hoax. I hope they stop calling the poor kid "balloon boy", soon.
ReplyDeleteSci-fi is for girls, too. I'm with Nymeth, but I think I'll just stick my head in the sand. It's better not knowing.
Nat- I knew I had to use that pic.
ReplyDeleteNymeth- I couldn't look any further than the article. That was disturbing enough.
John- Evil!
Bookfool- It was too strange to be real.
Jeane- Glad to hear it was good.
Carrie & Nikki- Thanks.
Kailana- It was quite the drama at the time.
