Okay the big news in the US is the FTC and blogger endorsement regulations. It seems everyone is confused- even the FTC. They seem to think bloggers are starting used book stores. Cause, you know, used books stores are like Starbucks, one on every corner. And just look at those book bloggers in their Rolls Royces and diamond tiaras. For shame! Melissa's letter to the FTC sums it up nicely: they have no idea how book blogging works.

It's a long weekend here in Canada since Monday is Thanksgiving! I'll be posting a recipe for Amy's Fall Festival Recipe Exchange. Hope you'll stop by!
Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThe FTC is driving me CRAZY! I also sew cloth diapers (http://www.clothcouturediapers.com) and now the FTC wants to test for lead.. which cost like 2,000 a test. For WAHMs who make single like products, that doesn't even make sense. Just is going to make MORE people out of work.
ReplyDeleteNow this blogging thing. I would like to rip the FTC a new one.

Well-Read Reviews
Would you get a kindle if they were available in Canada? I'm doing research to see if I want one or not! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Fall Festival info, I love cooking and will have to check out the links and maybe add a recipe of my own!
I am not making anything of FTC new regulations. I have always specified if I got a book from a publisher and will keep doing it (I just never saw a reason not to do it because my reviews are never swayed due to it). Anyway, I wish my blogging could produce a Rolls Royce or maybe a Masserati, lol!
ReplyDeleteSoftdrink- Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAllison- I had heard about the lead thing which I think went too far.
Joanna- I really don't know. I thought of the Sony Reader but they are really expensive here and I have issues with DRM. My MP3 player hates DRM and get messed up every time.
Lilly- Yes, I can say I make $0 dollars from blogging. I think my Amazon affiliate account made a couple of cents though. Not enough for them to pay me!
I don't know why they don't mandate that newspapers and magazines report any products they receive for free from companies. Because all those book reviews in the Chicago Tribune or the LA Times are from FREE books that the publisher sends them. And when I was travel editor of the New Haven Register and took a press trip for free, I never had to disclose that, either. There seems to be a double standard here, and it's totally not fair to the bloggers.
ReplyDeleteI love your new look -- and I like the head tabs now too! Great job.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to sweat over the FTC.
Karen- The funny thing is when someone from the FTC was interviewed he said that those paper reviewers didn't keep the books. Yet everything I read says otherwise.
ReplyDeleteBeth- Thank you Beth. I keep finding little issues but nothing big yet.
Personally I'd make one little amendment to your post, I think everyone's confused ESPECIALLY the FTC.
