So it's officially Fall! The leaves are turning. The nights are cooler. It's book reading time.

*It's here! Rebecca started a blog, The Classics Circuit, for "a blog tour of classic authors." Please vote.

*The Giller longlist was announced and there were a lot of women on it. Why is this shocking?

*Then one of the judges opens her mouth and makes everyone hate her.

*It's Banned Books Week in the US but not everyone is a fan.

*Before you light torches and head to LaVar Burton's house, remember this is The Onion. It's satire.

*Darwin movie Creation finds a US distributor.

*Etsy Love: For Banned Books Week Locket Set from Polarity.

Have a great weekend! Maybe take a walk and enjoy the Fall weather.

  1. I think that article sort of misses the point of Banned Book Week. The problem aren't parents who try to oversee their kids' educations, but parents who take it upon themselves to oversee the education of every single kid who uses the library. And to say it doesn't matter if a book is removed from a library because it will always be available in bookstores to buy is to be blinded by privilege.

Anyway, on to happy things: I knew you'd pick that LOLcat :D

  2. I wasn't really all that concerned with the Giller long-list, but people are! We complain about everything! I mean, we complain if there are more men than women (which happens most of the time) and then when women dominate, we complain about that too! I don't think book should be judged on sex, race, nationality, etc. It should be about the writing above everything else. If you start worrying about everything else than the books are on the list because of diversity (which generally I am all for) and then books that are really really good get overlooked by books that aren't as good...

    End rant...

  3. Nymeth- I agree, we'd have a Fahrenheit 451 situation if every parent who wanted a book banned had their way.

Kailana- I know! Big whoop that there are more women on the list. Can't it just be they were the best books of the year?!
