It's May! Spring is really here now. The grass is green and I'm getting antsy to start gardening. Yesterday I started some seeds in my mini greenhouse. I hope it isn't still too cold for them. I hear it's going to rain though so it's going to be a reading weekend. What are your plans?
*It's Buy Indie Day. Support your local Indie book store.
*"The rules were strict." Slightly. This is one serious bookclub.
*See you in the funny pages. Saturday is Comic Book Day.
*Ah, the Exclamation Mark! How I love you! Hurray for the exclamation mark!!
*Wow, a first edition Origin of the Species sells for $60,000.
*Library board members dismissed because of YA books. What do you think?
*Lawrence Hill: "My vision is that you should be able to read your way right across Canada." Cool.
*"Teens lured to library": Why does the title of this article read like some evil plot? I'm imagining librarians tenting their fingers and whispering "Excellent!"
*Etsy Love: I featured prints from this Smile Shop before but this one I hadn't seen. The Little Reader would be great for a little reader's room.
Okay folks, that's it! Enjoy!
I hope to get some seeds started this weekend too. Some go right in the garden (easy!) others in pots.
ReplyDeleteBoo on the library board members getting dismissed. That is clearly ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteLured. It's hard to believe it takes convincing. :)
ReplyDeleteThat article about exclamation points was brilliant, and I enjoyed the Hypatia club too. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnd all I will do is build my new blog this week. I need a 3 colume template. Any help in that direction?
ReplyDeleteBTW, everything distils into reading is my new blog. Please do visit it, subscribe to it or follow it! Do help me spread the word.
We find that the best lure for teenagers is pizza. If you offer pizza, they will come.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me started on that library board.....
Comic book day? How did we miss this?
ReplyDeleteGreat links! I loved that the youngest member of that book club is in her 60's. :)
ReplyDeleteI am BEYOND furious on behalf of those library board members. Censorship should NOT be allowed in this day and age. Don't like a book? Don't check it out. Stop taking options away from other people just because you're afraid of them. GRRRR.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is interested, there's a petition linked in the comments of the Publisher's Weekly site here. I signed it. Stuff like this makes me furious.
Beth- Hope you got your seeds in the ground.
ReplyDeleteJodie- I think so too.
Carrie- Sometimes they have to be lured, I guess.
Booktrash- Thanks!
Gautami- I heard about your blog. No fun. My blog template info is at the bottom of my page.
Teabird- Pizza lures more than teens, I think.
Scribbit- Sorry you missed it.
Alyce- lol! Sounds like my mil's cardgame club.
Stephanie- Thanks for letting us know about that. I agree, don't check them out if you don't like them. I'm sure there are books I wouldn't take out but I'm not telling anyone else not to.
Oh heaven forbid there be books about controversial subjects at the library! Libraries are not supposed to be parents. I don't know, I thought parents were supposed to be parents and determine what their children could see and do. Ridiculous!
ReplyDeletei really love reading books..specially the comic ones..and this site really have a lot of information about books..keep on posting guys>
