The Friday Bookish Buzz: A Slushy Friday

The storm we were supposed to have sort of fizzled out. It's just kind of gray and wet today. So, next week here in Canada is Freedom to Read week. Are you currently reading a banned or challenged book? Maybe you are and just don't know it. Check here to find out.

*Ang Lee in negotiations to direct Life of Pi

*Romance publisher Mills & Boon have a problem with Virgin's 'no kissing' rule.

*Between the Covers provides a list of bookish words.

*Atwood says no, she won't go.

*Which book do you think should take the 'oddest book title' award? Take a peek.

*I find the name of the town and the book ironic in this situation: an Iowa woman is jailed for an overdue library book.

*The dead keep on writing. 'New' Tolkien book to be published in May.

*Remember February 22-28 is Freedom to Read week. Maybe you in the US can read a pre-1985 children's book.

*And in that spirit...Etsy Love: "I Read Banned Books" buttons by Kate Black.

Have a great weekend!

  2. Halifax got a storm, though. They had like everything shut down. Lucky them!

  3. Great list! I found out about Freedom to Read week too, as well as Ang Lee's hope to direct Life of Pi. I just read the book and I am trying to decide how good a movie it would actually be. I find it would be almost better imagined than played out for you.

Also, I love the banned books buttons! Great discovery!

  9. I think I'm the only person on the planet that just didn't like Life of Pi. Maybe I should try it again someday......

  10. I for one have loved Life of Pi but I cannot help wondering whether it would make a good movie or not. After all, the most interesting parts (for me) were the thoughts going on inside Pi's mind. Also, I absolutely hated the "fighting for survival" part when Pi and the animals first get into the boat (I imagined it quite vividly when reading and I don't feel like actually seeing it).
