Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. Any big plans for the weekend? I'd just like a card and maybe some chocolate and I'd be happy.
*Bizarre. What are the most stolen books in England? Find out.
*Not good news: Harper-Collins laying off employees.
*Everything you want to know about the Kindle2. Still not available in Canada or elsewhere in the world. There's a market for other e-readers right there!
*Um, if you're interested, Dan Brown finished another book.
*The new US lead law takes a strange and sad turn at the library: "I watched as boxes and boxes of children’s books were thrown into the garbage!"
*I just liked the title of this story.
*It is a truth universally acknowledged...Brains!! Zombie Jane Austen.
*Happy Birthday Charles Darwin! How's that beard working out for you?
*Freedom to Read week here in Canada starts February 22-28.
*A little DIY heart bookmark from Bloomize.
*Try Wordle. It's fun!
*Etsy Love: a Valentine bookworm from Bookwormz!
Have a great weekend!
Dan Brown has finished his book! Wow. Took him long enough!
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I always look forward to your Friday posts! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you for posting the link to the book "banning" situation. I can't believe I didn't know about it and I have posted about it on my blog. This upsets me so greatly that I daresay I may not sleep tonight. I am a children's book collector and I have probably more good books in my collection than my local libraries have - with this new law, I'm sure of it.
ReplyDeleteCute ferret picture! I used to have ferrets as a kid and miss them dearly.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links!
Awww, the ferrets are awesome! No big plans for v-day here. Hubby and I have our annual tacky card competition (he says he's purchased a very strong contender this year), and we might go out to dinner.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that new law applied to children's books. The press here in Sacramento have been reporting onit but only as it pertains to children's clothes. I feel ill and I think I will be visiting all my favorite used bookstores to make purchases from their kids sections. Now I will live dangerously and go read my pre 1985 copies of Anne, Little House, Little Women, and A Child's Garden of Verses.
ReplyDeleteBiblioGuy and I are a couple of homebodies, so all I'm asking for on V-Day is a date. Nothing fancy, just a date. After that, we'll probably come home and read.
ReplyDeleteI can not wait until that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies book comes out. I hope it's as awesome as it sounds! :)
Happy Valentines Day!! I reviewed a love story for today.
ReplyDeleteValentine's Post
Great selection of links!
ReplyDelete- The stolen books lists were really neat, I'd like to find out whats on the Canadian lists now.
- I can't believe the book ban is on books from 85 and earlier, that seems like just yesterday, sad :(
- Haha the Jane Austen zombie book looks like so much fun!
Happy Valentine's Day to you! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my, Wordle is so much fun and, it's addictive!
I had a librarian once tell me that the most commonly stolen books from her library were graphic novels. Shortly after I noticed that it was the only shelf marked "closely monitored" at our local bookstore.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sad about the children's books. Seems like a major overreaction! :(
ReplyDeleteWordle is great fun! I used it to decorate my German book for school, and the people I sent it to seemed to enjoy it too.
ReplyDeleteMarg- He's been at it forever.
ReplyDeleteWombat, Joanne, Tanabata & Daihbin- I know, what a shame!
Matt & booktrash- I made a few Wordles. Now what to do with them?
John- That's interesting. I wonder why?
I cannot believe that stupid law about lead is leading to the destruction of children's books! What a horror. Thanks for sharing that link.
ReplyDeleteDan Brown. Meh. Talk about a lot of hoopla over writing that's only so-so. Anyhow. I think the Kindle looks really cool, but I just like the feeling of holding a physical book. Plus, they are going to have to make E-books a lot cheaper.
