Hello 2009! The Friday Bookish Buzz

Welcome 2009! It's a brand new year. Do you have any book or reading plans for the year? I really need to clean out my bookshelves again. They get messy so easily. I always get the organizing bug in January. How about you?

*Mavericks have been banished! Good riddance. Though I kind of like staycation.

*Ah, to be that young and carefree again. Do you want to read like a girl?

*Return of the serial novel. Dickens did it, why not Alexander McCall Smith?

*Champagne wishes and caviar dreams! Maybe not for the publishing industry anymore. Will this cost cutting save them?

*...but, hard times might mean better books. At least, this article from the UK says so.

*Oopsy! Sorry didn't mean to plagarize. That's Mr Walsch's story anyway.

*Ding-ding! It's Ellora's Cave vs Borders. Quite a David vs Goliath battle ahead for the publishing world.

*Now that I've got links all over the place, maybe I should rethink linking or maybe these guys should learn how the internet works.

Finally, a video for you, a rap about Youtube commenters. Of course, my commenters leave well written and thought out ones for me. Enjoy it anyway!

  1. I definitely have the organizing bug when it comes to my books. I already gave away many of them in the last week.

Do you read like a girl? I definitely do. If I can't get lost in a book, I stop reading it.

    Happy Friday!

  3. The picture is priceless - you know that the next moment had those little claws showing. Love it.

Sometimes I can read like a girl. When it happens - as in The time traveller's wife - it's a joy!

  5. I'm going to try to get to some of the books on my shelves that I haven't read yet. I got off to a good start with George Pelecanos' The Turnaround and Michael Connelly's The Brass Verdict. And then today I went to the library and it all went to heck: came home with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It's gotten amazing reviews, so I want to see what all the hullabaloo is about.

  6. Oh yes, I was hit by the book organizing bug this past week. It was sad but I cheered up after getting a $200 credit at the local used bookstore :)

Love the link about banished words - sorry to see "not so much" make the blacklist, I use that phrase so much!
