In lieu of the Friday Bookish Buzz, I went to the library sale today! I was sick yesterday but couldn't miss out. I'm glad I went.
I walked out with Wide Sargasso Sea (Jean Rhys), Murder Is Easy and The Sittaford Mystery (Agatha Christie), Cousin Kate (Georgette Heyer), 1984 (George Orwell) and The Bonesetter's Daughter (Amy Tan). I'm sure I could have bought more but I limited myself.
I also went to read to the kiddies in my daughter's class this morning so it was a full book day!
Hi Chris. Sounds like you got some good deals. I've never tried a library sale before.
ReplyDeleteHope you can drop by for a visit. Have you seen the new design?
Congratulations on showing restraint!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful little pile you've got, there! I admire your self-control. 1984 is an old favorite -- I read it in about 1980. And, you can't lose with Heyer.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon and didn't cough on anybody. :)
Gotta love library sales! I really enjoyed 1984 and Wide Sargasso Sea, though the latter made me really, really sad.
ReplyDeleteOooh, such goodies! I want to try Georgette Heyer sometime, but I just haven't gotten around to her yet. Enjoy your haul!
ReplyDeleteI have a copy of The Bonesetter's Daughter, bought some years ago, and I STILL HAVEN'T READ IT! Perhaps I should have sent it to you, although I do love Amy Tan's works.
ReplyDeleteVery nice book pile! I love the design of the Christie's. Just last week I read my first Georgette Heyer - wow I'll be looking for more.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your reads :)
Thanks! I think I found some gems this time around.
ReplyDeleteI had my library book sale yesterday too! What fun!
ReplyDeleteThat is good constraint, Chris! I can't leave a sale without a giant bag...eeks! I really need to read some Agatha Christie one of these days.
ReplyDeleteI'd say you did a good job. Our library is having a sale on Dec. 4 and I can't imagine how many books I'll be leaving with. However, I'll try to do like you and limit myself. We'll see how well I do.
ReplyDeleteMy first library sale was this year and WoW I was not in control at all! I did not know they would have brand new books that were donated, just about every book i bought looked new or gently used and when you can get 3 hardbacks for 5.00 and paperbacks at .25 unleash the book addict lol! granted i tried to show restraint but i walked out with 4 bags full of books! I would have to be bedridden not to go now since i know what it's like. Oh, my husband almost moved me out of the house that day too untill i told him what i paid for all my books i think it was 25.00 .
ReplyDeleteOh Ashley... Just where is your Library located so i might show up there on the 4th?? LoL
ReplyDeleteNice! I prefer Animal Farm to 1984, but it's still a great read. Will it be a first time or reread for you?
ReplyDeletei read wide sargasso sea for literature class once, and i didn't like it. i even saw the movie. but i did appreciate the author's perspective on rochester's first wife and how she might have come to be in jane eyre. in that sense, i like books like that offer a different perspective. for instance, if you enjoyed the classic gone with the wind, you should read the sequel scarlett, written by alexandra ripley. that was one real good read!
ReplyDeleteOoh.. library sales are so exciting! I'm impressed with your level of self-control!
ReplyDeleteI love library sales! You found some good ones there so enjoy them Hope you are feeling much better too!
ReplyDeletePhotoquest- Sounds like those were good deals!
ReplyDeleteJohn- I read Animal Farm in school, a long time ago. I've never read 1984. For some reason, I thought of it just before I went to the sale.
Nylusmilk- I'm curious about it. I'm such a Jane Eyre fan.
Andi- Heyer is a new-to-me author I'm enjoying.
Zombie- I loved the covers of the Christie's too.
Bookfool- lol! No I didn't.
Thanks for the well wishes everyone. The girl had the flu all weekend too. She's just starting to feel better today.
I love Georgette Heyer. I don't think I've read Cousin Kate but maybe it's just been too long.
ReplyDeleteI am so envious. I've heard so much about library sales in the US. We don't have that concept here in the Philippines. Usually, the books stay in the libraries forever.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be as restrained as you were. My TBR tower looms over me.
