On October 1st, my daughter came home from school anxious to start decorating for Halloween. *sigh* Like mother, like daughter! We put this fun foam project together as well.
*Speaking of October beginnings, Estella's Revenge is right on schedule.
*The Jewel of Medina Drama. First this, then this and finally that. To quote Hannah Montana, they got nerve. (And balls!)
*Aw, memories. Just in time for Banned Books Week, thoughts of your first 'dirty' book.
*I LOVE this story. It makes me want to move to Vancouver. A used bookstore EXPANDS! Hurray!
*Is booking blogging going mainstream? Nice that it's being discussed, but someone needs to tell this dude that he didn't invent the wheel.
*Nobel Prize in Literature to American authors, "You no write good." Americans say, "D'ems fightin' words."
*Etsy Love: Check out Carl @ Stainless Steel Droppings' interview with Anne-Julie Aubry.
That foam thinger is so cute!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I dragged all my holiday boxes out of storage and started decorating yesterday. I hope to post pictures of my village when it's all complete (yes, a Halloween village!)
ReplyDeleteI love this time of year!
Ohh your Halloween foamy is so awesome!! My kids love that stuff. I figured they weren't going to be interested in Halloween this year (being how they're always telling me they're not "kids" anymore) but they've been researching pumpkin carving designs for the past week :)
ReplyDelete"It's not meant to sound snobby, but we will be targeting those that are more culturally savvy and astute, not the masses."
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll be hitting up his site. Because it sounds snobby.
And you're right, this guy needs to realize that there have been many many book bloggers who have come before him and do a great job. Like you.
I love the foam project!
ReplyDeleteAnd I was going to say pretty much what Karen Olson said. I think I'll be staying away from Lit Mob. The guy seems to have decided to transpose the arrogant hipster mentality you find in some music blogs to book blogging. Thanks but no thanks.
That foam project is SO CUTE! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI hate to say it, but the Lit Mob site seems way to 'snobby' for me despite the creators not very convincing apology about sounding snobby. "Consumer-driven" sites aren't reliable...that is you and me folks. And they are only catering to the 'discerning reader'. Please! The only good reader is a reader who reads what they want, whether that be a wide and occasionally challenging variety of books or whether they would rather just read one type of one genre of fiction for their entire lives. That kind of 'discerning reader' is indeed a snob, the same kind of snobs who turn in to professional book critics who like few books and cry in their soup over the proliferation of book bloggers. It certainly isn't a site I need, I guess I'm just stupid enough that I can still walk into a bookstore myself and walk out with damn good fiction. And I can go to any one of hundreds or thousands of you wonderful 'consumers' and have your passion for a particular book fuel my desire to pick it up.
ReplyDeleteSoapbox is now put away. ;)
Nik & Andi- Thanks!
ReplyDeleteTrish- That's sounds like fun!
Book Zombie- Halloween brings the kid out in all of us!
Karen- Usually when someone says, "I don't mean to be snobby," they are.
Nymeth- I agree!
Carl- A 'discerning reader' is missing out on a lot in my opinion if they only read what some dude tells them to. Great comment! It will be interesting to see how his site does.
I wish I was more crafty.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the links. I've been curious about the "Jewel of Medina" book... not curious enough to actually buy it, but I can't imagine what that must be like for that author. How horrid!
