Booking Through Thursday
Do you buy books while on vacation/holiday?
Do you have favorite bookstores that you only get to visit while away on a trip?
What/Where are they?
Funny, I missed last BTT because I was on vacation. I didn't buy any books though.
I don't go on vacation all that often, so I don't have any shops in particular where I buy books. I do like to buy books as a souvenir. I'll usually pick those up at local gift shops. I like to buy books on the local folklore- usually a book of ghost stories. I've bought books in New Brunswick, and Alberta. While in PEI, I bought a set of Anne of Green Gables books. You just have to when your in the land of Anne. When I was on my honeymoon in the Rockies, I picked up a book of nice black and white photography of the mountains. That's my favorite vacation buy.
How about you?
Buying books as souvenirs is a great idea - I like to do that, too. Much more satisfying than a trinket I'd just throw away later.
ReplyDeleteI love folklore and ghost stories of a specific area. It's always fun to tap into their superstitious psyches. I'm a bit of a collector of superstitions and their origins. :-D
ReplyDeleteYikes! I already posted, and I forgot about buying local books of interest! Ah well.
ReplyDeleteI don't go to a particular shop either, but I like you I do like to buy a book wherever I go as a souvenir.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea about finding the local ghost stories books I never thought of that. :-)
ReplyDeletethat's kind of like what i like to do- get something special as a souvenir. i've never read the anne books but i want to go to pei someday- sounds like a good combination! :-)
ReplyDeleteI buy souvenir type books also especially ones involving local folklore. Living in Nova Scotia makes it so much fun because you can find so different books with similar legends.
ReplyDeleteWonderful answer! I have never done this, buying books specific to the area, but it's a lovely idea. I tend to buy refrigerator magnets instead, LOL! :) I love that you bought a set of Anne books while on PEI, how awesome!
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
Yup Reynold's is on my list although I havent gotten down yet this year.
ReplyDeleteThere used to be a shop just down the way from there (Kings Road I think) but I cant for the life of me remember the name.
The idea of buying books as a souvenir has never really crossed my mind. However I'm not usually interested in the stuff most people would probably think of as souvenir books. However, ghost stories and follklore sound right up my alley. Next time I'm on vacation I may just have to check out the local bookstore.
ReplyDeleteI stick with the list of favorite bookshops but I usually find new ones as I'm walking around. I like small bookshops and ones that carry books of local interests.
ReplyDeleteYes! I will buy a book wherever I go...it makes a great souvenir IMO!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to pick up a book on local folklore too. Or anything about the place I'm visiting. My mom brought home a few when she went to England. I love looking at them. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm on vacation I like finding books by local authors or set locally.
ReplyDeleteSoftdrink- That's a good idea too.
ReplyDeleteI also think that buying books as souvenirs is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI like to buy books with historical and geographical fats while on a vacation.
