Checking it twice. Okay, I'm making my book lists for 2 future challenges:

The 2nd Canadian Book Challenge hosted at The Book Mine Set. I'm picking The Free Spirit approach. I don't like being boxed in. Well, mostly it's because I still have a bunch of books I haven't finished for the last challenge. I will do better this time. Here's my list:
- The Assassin's Song by M.G. Vassanji
- The Colony of Unrequited Dreams by Wayne Johnson
- Negotiating with the Dead by Margaret Atwood DONE
- Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood DONE
- The Underpainter by Jane Urquhart
- Yellowknife by Steve Zipp DONE
- Coureurs de Bois by Bruce MacDonald
- Anne's House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery DONE
- Getting Over Edgar by Joan Barfoot DONE
- Jane Austen by Carol Shields
- No Great Mischief by Alastair MacLeod
Late Nights On Airby Elizabeth Hay The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson DONESomething from Timothy FindleyLoyalists and Layabouts by Stephen Kimber DONE
- The Lifted Veil: George Eliot
- Summer: Edith Wharton
- Far From the Madding Crowd: Thomas Hardy
- North & South: Elizabeth Gaskell
- Hard Times: Charles Dickens
Maybe I'll finish a few this time around.
Both great lists! I'd like to do the Canadian Book Challenge, but can't ever seem to fit it in. I don't do well with the challenges that require so many books, but maybe next year!
ReplyDeleteOoohhh, tempting. The most likely one for me is the Classics Challenge...I see you're doing another Hardy!
ReplyDeleteGreat lists. I am leaning not to the classics challenge, as I find them much harder to get through. You certainly appreciate them more than I.
ReplyDeleteI hope to read No Great Mischief as well and I look forward to hearing how you like Yellowknife.
The classics challenge is sooo tempting. Good luck with them both!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm going to try.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to be able to finish the Canadian Book Challenge I either, but I am hopeful for II. I signed up for I really late, I think it was already 5-6 months into it.
ReplyDeleteI'm still deciding on my list, but I think I'll be going free spirit as well.
Wayne Johnston's Colony of Unrequited Dreams is one of my favourites. It really surprised me, especially since I'd read his Story of Bobby O'Malley earlier and didn't enjoy it at all. I thought The Robber Bride was one of Atwood's more fun stories. No Great Mischief is another all-time favourite. Late Nights on Air I thought was really good, too. I read The Wars by Timothy Findley and didn't really like it, but I do want to try Not Wanted on the Voyage. Steve Zipp's Yellowknife will probably make my next round as well. Hope you have fun with all these!
ReplyDeleteTeddy- I kept thinking I had more time!
ReplyDeleteJohn- Glad you like my list. I might read Not Wanted. I hear good things about it. Findley is my niece's favorite. I might ask her.
