Friday Bookish Buzz: November 23

I imagine all my American friends are awaking from their turkey comas this morning. There are a few blog worthy things in the book related news this week:
  • I love shoes. Here's some advice from Nina Garcia's Little Black Book of Style, all about shoes.
  • The big news this week is all about the Amazon Kindle, the latest in ebook technology. At $399 though, it better rewrite bad endings!
  • If you happen to be a NaNoWriMo participant, writer Ami MacKay has some encouragement, especially if you're doubting your talent.
  • There is actually a book devoted to book blogs, The Bookaholics' Guide to Book Blogs. I wonder who made it in.
  • If you feel like starting an online book club, here are some guidelines.
  • The Bronte Bloggers mention a YA novel set here in Cape Breton, The Great and Awful Summer published by Nova Scotia's Nimbus Publishing.
  • Finally for Edith Wharton fans: a Wharton letter may reveal her intentions regarding Lily Bart.

  1. My 19-year old niece, who's a violinist, is thinking of spending January in your part of the world, studying with a Cape Breton fiddler. Is she crazy to think of being there in January?

I am an Edith Wharton fan, and thanks for the fascinating link!

  3. Rob- It will be cold but not awful. Who is she studying with?

  4. My husband told me about the kindle a few days ago, but I just frowned the whole time I was listening. I just don't like the idea of books being made obsolete by technology. It reminds me of when I got rid of all my LPs when CDs came out, and now I could be selling them for tons of money to collectors! I don't want to end up one of the paper book collectors paying tons of money for old-style real books!

  5. I can't remember exactly who she's studying with...someone with some connection with Natalie McMaster, though. One of her teachers, maybe? My brain was sluggish with turkey when we had this conversation.

  6. Thank you for that Wharton link. I just finished The House of Mirth a week ago!
