Some interesting stuff this week:
- It's Banned Books Week in the US Sept 29- Oct 6. Celebrate your right and read something dirty.
- Punctuation is in the news. Some people want to abolish the apostrophe or are just angry about misused quotation marks. I admit I misuse quotation marks (hangs head in shame).
- And in related news, Sept 24 was National Punctuation Day. These photos are cute.
- The Tudors (the series) is starting on CBC Oct 2. Looking forward to a hot (but loony) Henry VIII.
- Becky is hosting a Mini Book Review Challenge. Sounds do-able.
- This is a cool challenge: Every Month is a Holiday. Choose your reading according to a monthly holiday. Hosted by Kim.
- Scribbit is hosting a Winter Bazaar. It sounds like a lot of fun.
- And finally, Carl as part of the RIP2 Challenge is hosting a flash fiction contest that is quite a challenge. I'm creating mine soon.
LOVE those..especially the hand dryer's..lol.
ReplyDeleteThat sort of punctuation is one of my MAIN peeves..
I am looking forward to the Tudor series too, should be fun!
I'm so bummed that I won't see The Tudors, because I don't live in Canada and we don't get CBC here in Connecticut. I have an incredible obsession with Henry VIII and all his wives and children, although I find myself getting rather irritated when fiction is introduced. Because the fact is far more interesting than anything anyone can make up.
ReplyDeleteA new Elizabeth I movie is coming out Nov. 2 with Cate Blanchett, but it's set at the time of the Spanish Armada and Blanchett certainly doesn't look like she's 55, which was Elizabeth's age then. But I may have to bite the bullet and see it anyway :)
I thought maybe The Tudors was on HBO or something down there. I can't wait to see it in all it's HD glory.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, Henry's life is one of those stranger than fiction stories.
I saw the ads for Elizabeth. I still didn't see the first one. (I can't believe that.) But it does look beautiful.
Oooh, the Tudors on CBC. I keep forgetting that it starts this week! I'm rather excited to watch it. :)
ReplyDeleteI've read The Chocolate War already for BBW, and I'm also planning on reading The House on Mango Street.
ReplyDeleteI'm in on the Banned Book celebration and I'm reading The Catcher in The Rye. Never read it before so it should be interesting.

Thank you for the very informative post. I'm not working in a library right now and Banned Book Week would have passed me by.
