R.I.P. Challenge: BOO!

OK, I thought 'no more challenges'. I've been bad at keeping up lately, but I love a scary story for Halloween. Carl at Stainless Steel Droppings is starting R.I.P. 2 (Readers Imbibing Peril) The thing is I've read so many of the older Gothic tales (Dracula, Frankenstein) that I have lying around the house. I managed to find a couple though. I'm doing Peril #1. Here's the list:
  • Don't Look Now and Other Stories by Daphne duMaurier
  • Great Irish Tales of Horror (an anthology)
  • The House on the Strand by Daphne duMaurier
  • (And if I get the First Look selection for Sept) 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill

I'm not counting on the last one but if I'm lucky enough to get it, I'll be reading it for this challenge.

Alternatively:

  • The Thirteenth Tale
  • Bluenose Ghosts (re-read)

This one sounds fun. I love the Fall and Halloween so even though I tried to talk myself out of it, I know I'll enjoy reading them on those blustery days. Join me won't you, MOO-HA-HA-HA!

  1. I haven't read House on the Strand yet. Have you read My Cousin Rachel?? I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Gothic is like du Maurier's middle name!!

It looks like you have some great books...and you'll enjoy this challenge. Carl is a GREAT host!

  2. I haven't read that one yet. I thought House of the Strand was romance until I read the blurb. I loved Rebecca so I'm looking forward to it.

  3. I think House on the Strand is one of the few du Maurier's I didn't get round to reading. That will have to be rectified. :)

Great list, hope you enjoy the challenge. As Stephanie said - Carl is a great host.

I'll be reading 20th Century Ghosts for the challenge. After reading Heart Shaped Box earlier this year, I'm very much looking forward to it!

The Thirteenth Tale is a book I enjoyed thoroughly, so if you end up reading that one, I will be interested to see what you think of it.

  10. I can't wait for this challenge to start! I am not going to have a list, I am just going to see what I have time to read and put up links to reviews on his page. Shockingly I have never read Bram Stokers Dracula so I will try and get around to it for the challenge.

  11. If I can get The Thirteenth Tale from the library, I'll be reading it. I'm sure there's a waiting list.

Rhinoa- I think not having a list is a good idea. I'm having problems with lists lately.

    Good luck everybody!

  13. The House on the Strand is on my stack. Someday, I'll get around to writing up my list for the RIP. I forgot about Don't Look Now! Will look forward to seeing what you have to say about that one.
